The second legs of the quarterfinals in all three European cups take place this week. Only Aston Villa is in a commanding potion among the Premier League clubs still playing in Europe. The Villans carry a one goal advantage into Thursday’s second leg of their Europa Conference League quarterfinal with Lille. A late goal by Lille in Villa’s 2-1 win in the opening leg gives the French side hope, however. Both English Champions League contenders are level with their opponents after one leg of the quarterfinals.
Defending champion Manchester City will host its second leg with Real Madrid at the Etihad on Wednesday.
Arsenal, meanwhile, must travel to Germany in hopes of favorably breaking its deadlock with Bayern Munich. All eyes will be on how Arsenal responds to Sunday’s devastating loss in the Premier League. The Premier League clubs still competing in the Europa League are in the most difficult positions to advance.
Liverpool must travel to Italy in hopes of overcoming Atalanta’s three goal advantage. The Reds could be demoralized after two consecutive losses this past week have sent their season into a spiral.
West Ham will be home trying to overcome a two-goal hole in their quarterfinal tie with Bayer Leverkusen. The German side clinched the Bundesliga championship on Sunday while the Hammers were losing at London Stadium to Fulham.
