The group stage draws are set for Europe’s top two cup competitions. Chelsea’s Champions League draw appears the most favorable for the English clubs. The Blues draw Juventus, potentially without the disaffected Cristiano Ronaldo, in a group which includes Zenit St. Petersburg and Swedish club Malmo. Manchester City draws Paris St. Germain, with new addition Lionel Messi. Potentially spoiling the party for the two mega clubs could be RB Leipzig under American manager Jesse March. Club Brugge of Belgium presents a lesser threat. Liverpool has drawn potentially the deepest group as it joins Atletico Madrid, Porto, and AC Milan. Manchester United will again face Europa League winner Villareal. Italian club Atalanta could surprise in United’s group which also includes Swiss club Young Boys.
In the Europa League group stage West Ham will join Dinamo Zagreb, conquerors of Spurs in Europa competition last season, in a group which also includes Genk and Rapid Vienna. Leicester draws Napoli with the two clubs expected to advance past Legia Warsaw and Spartak Moscow.
